Zoetic Stage congratulates company members Michael McKeever and Barry Tarallo, winners of 2011 Silver Palm Awards.
Michael was recognized for writing two outstanding new plays: SOUTH BEACH BABYLON (produced by Zoetic Stage) and STUFF (produced by The Caldwell Theatre).
Barry was recognized as an ensemble member in Mosaic Theatre’s production of THE IRISH CURSE.

We’ve begun rehearals for our our first production of the 2011-2012 Season–Christopher Demos-Brown’s* CAPTIVA– and we’ve put together an exceptional team.

CAPTIVA--First Rehearsal

A key part of Zoetic Stage’s mission is to collaborate with, and showcase, the talents of local artists as we did with choreographer, Rosie Herrera, and performance artist, Octavio Campos, in our inaugural production of Michael McKeever’s SOUTH BEACH BABYLON. So we’re thrilled to be using music from another local artist, Miami-based Jazz composer, Peter J. Yanowitch, in parts of this season’s first production, the world premiere of CAPTIVA by Christopher Demos-Brown.
Music plays an important role in CAPTIVA. The characters make frequent reference to it and musical interludes will help set the tone for the play. Peter’s exquisitely melodic yet inventive jazz compositions have a depth and emotional subtlety that make his music a perfect match for CAPTIVA and we’ll be using Peter’s songs for several music interludes.
Peter’s discography includes “Getting There,” “Truer Words,” and “Harmoniam,” featuring New York City Jazz saxophone and flugelhorn player Ron Horton (recorded at Bennett Studios in Englewood, New Jersey). His most recent CD–which he co-wrote with Wendy Pedersen and the Miami-based Jazz pianist Jim Gasior–is titled “Boy Meets Girl.” This CD also features such internationally renowned musicians as flugelhorn player Arturo Sandoval and the Jazz saxophonist Ed Calle.
Peter’s music has been featured on Miami Jazz radio station WDNA 88.9 FM and all of his recordings are available at cdbaby.com and through iTunes Music Store. His music has also been performed to acclaim in the very Carnival Studio Theater at The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts where CAPTIVA will premiere.

PATRICE BAILEY— Patrice is Dean of Theater at The New World School of the Arts in Miami where she has directed over 50 productions. In addition to teaching, she has worked extensively in television production, specifically, as a talent coordinator for the Tony Awards. In 2010, she received the George Abbott Award, the Carbonell Committee’s highest honor for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts.
CYNTHIA DEMOS—Cynthia is an Emmy Award-winning anchor/reporter on CBS4 News in Miami. Before coming back to her native Miami, she was an anchor/reporter in Orlando, West Palm Beach (WPTV), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Panama City. Cynthia is also a theatre aficionada.
RAÚL ESPARZA—Raúl has been nominated for four Tony Awards and is one of only two actors in the history of American Theatre to be nominated in every category for which an actor is eligible. Raúl is one of most versatile and sought-after actors on Broadway. He grew up in Miami and is a graduate of The Belen Jesuit School.
KATIE FINNERAN—Katie is a two-time Tony Award-winning actress who regularly appears on Broadway. She has dozens of major film and television credits and currently stars in the Fox TV series “I Hate My Teenage Daughter.” Katie grew up in Miami and is a graduate of The New World School of the Arts.
DANA ROWE—Dana is a musical theatre composer. His works have been performed worldwide, including at such prestigious venues as Theatre Royal Drury Lane, The Donmar Warehouse, and Tokyo’s Imperial Garden Theatre. He recently collaborated on SEE JANE RUN (Actor’s Playhouse, World Premiere) with Zoetic Company Member Maribeth Graham (lyrics). Dana has been nominated twice for the Olivier Award.
